Won’t appear for any more inquiry committees: Khot
Pune: In an indication that he may soon part ways with his party, Swabhimani Paksha leader and Cabinet Minister Sadabhau Khot on Friday said he would not appear in front of any internal party committees any more, saying he would rather go to the farmers directly.Mr. Khot was speaking after being grilled by the Swabhimani Paksha’s core working committee at Circuit House for allegedly being involved in anti-party activities. Mr. Khot’s exit from the party has been speculated for a while now.The minister was reportedly asked to clarify his stance on a number of thorny issues, including his alleged soft-pedalling on behalf of the State government to resolve the knotty matter of agitating farmers.“Our party made an alliance with the BJP prior to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. As a responsible minister of the State Cabinet, I could not side openly with the agitating farmers against the government. I believe I have played the role of a constructive mediator between the farmers and the government to the best of my ability,” Mr. Khot said.Party sources said a call on Mr. Khot’s future would be taken during a two-day party meet in August.Mr. Khot’s relations with Swabhimani Paksha chief Raju Shetti are severely strained, leading to a major rift within the Swabhimani Paksha. It is believed that Mr. Shetti was keen on expelling Mr. Khot last month, but others restrained him from doing so without a proper ‘hearing’. Mr. Shetti has accused Mr. Khot, who is believed to be set on joining the BJP, of failing to fight for the farmers.
