Uva Chief Minister asked to appear before HRCSL on Thursday

The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) today issued notice on the Chief Minister of the Uva Province, Chamara Sampath Dassanayake, to appear before the commission on Thursday, February 1st.HRCSL had last week conducted inquiries on the incident where the Chief Minister had allegedly forced a principal from a school in Badulla to kneel before him. The inquiries were conducted for over 10 hours and statements were recorded from several people over the incident, including the school principal. The Chief Minister had rejected the allegations. (Colombo Gazette) The Chief Minister had reportedly summoned the principal of Tamil Girls’ Maha Vidyalaya, Badulla to his residence and made her kneel on the floor because she had refused to enroll a student recommended by him.
